I'm not sure why it became a huge trend all of the sudden, but it seems like everyone follows each other. My baby sister said that Hilary dyed her hair because of a movie, and then people think it is cool, so they follow it. I agree totally. I'm white with curly hair and I know curly hair breaks a lot easier in general, especially when you straighten it. If you want long hair, sometimes it's easier to use extensions.

I'd have to say that this question has attracted some of the most hypocritical answers I have ever seen on Y!A. Straightening hair is a relatively new thing in "black" culture, but weaving has been here for CENTURIES. Anyway, some black women wear weaves to fit into the media's perceptions of beauty. (i.e. the long, fine, flowing hair). Most African Americans don't pocess fine hair, it is rather kinky or curly. Some wear weaves for convenience. Some just wear it because they want to. With damp hair, roll it into rollers, it really don't matter what kind. They can be foam. If they are the ceramic heated kind then wit until your locks are dry, then roll them. I suggest you use foam to start with because they are inexpensive and it you don't like them, you're only out like $5, rather $20-$50. Before you roll, put some mouse in your hair. Roll, with med heat, (or, if you have time let air dry), blow-dry. Take rollers out and run your fingers through the waves. (Use big rollers to achieve the look of your pics) DO NOT BRUSH!!!! Brushing your hair will make it look frizzy and pull the waves out.

Put some hairspray on your hair and look fabulous!

If you are referring to the length of their hair, then I would obviously suggest natural hair extentions. They can be pricey to get but are very worth it and will match closer to your hair colour. If you are referring to the style, I know that in the salon I work at, you would either use hot rollers which work fairly well but with those, it is very difficult to do by yourself. If you want another option, I would suggest a medium to larger size barrel on a hot curling iron. If you were to go with a curling iron, ceramic would be the best choice as it will do less damage then regular metal and the curl would keep longer and the curl will stay more firmly. Also use a good hair spray when creating the curls and a good mousse after you washed your hair before-hand for volume. (For the products, go to your local drug store if you are short on money and ask the ladies there to help you find a good mousse and hair spray. If you are willing to spend more then go into a professional salon and talk to a representative. They will make suggestions on which products will work best on your hair.)

Blowdry hair straight, starting at the roots to get extra volume. Hair must be completely dry for this look to work. Blow cold air at the roots to add volume (cold air locks in a style)

Seperate into 3 sections with ponytail holders

To curl hair, use a 1-inch barrel curling iron. Starting with one section, take a 1-inch portion of hair and wrap hair around the barrel of the curling iron. (Wrapping hair is different from the traditional curling method. You don't want to 'clip' hair into the barrel. Wrapping allows you to curl all the way to the root). When you're curling, make sure to leave ends loose.

Release the curl after about 5-10 seconds (hold longer if you want a tighter curl). You should have a corkscrew curl.

Roll curl and bobby pin it close to the scalp. (I sometimes skip this step to save time).

Alternate the direction of the curl as you work your way through the section. (It's all in the direction you wind hair around the barrel of the curling iron. Start by placing hair on top of the barrel and wrapping around, then switch by putting the barrel on top of the hair before winding it around). Alternating directions makes curls look more natural.

Once pinned curls have cooled, release them.

Remove nozzle from dryer and gently loosen waves with cool air. You can also separate curls with your fingers, just make sure not to brush them out.

To add shine, spritz a hair serum . Or forego hair serum and spritz with saltwater spray. I like John Frieda Beach Blonde Ocean Waves Sea spray.

Set with hairspray. Just don't overdue it, you don't want new waves to feel 'crunchy.'

Hot rollers! Trust me, I've tried everything... hot rollers, velcro rollers, sponge rollers, curling iron.... and hot rollers work the best by far! Sponge were ok but took wayyy to long. And I have incredibly thick hair so curling iron just took too long. I would invest in hot rollers. Velcro worked like crap.

i have very long hair. its right above my belly button, naturally straight and more towards the thin side, but it has volume to it. i have bangs to around the middle of my ear and angled in the front with long layers and it works, so if you have the same hair type maybe it would be a good idea? i would definately go with angling from your chin or lower. im sure it would look cute =]

I care and there are thousands of people who care also. In my opinion, the people who are obsessed with Paris Hilton, the latest fashions, their favorite hairstyle and the new technologies are just plain superficial. It could be that deep down they do care, but don't really know how to speak it or carry them out.

Because of low self-confidence I have a hard time getting myself out there to help in the ways I would like to. Such as helping to counsel rape victims or drug abusers or just to volunteer my time with anybody that needs help.

Maybe you need to find websites that are more intuitive and thought-provoking and have some people who are willing to really do some serious talking about today's world and how to take action in helping out. Just a suggestion. Are you hanging out with these kind of people? That might help too.

if you want a suttle look dye your hair brown all over, and heavily streak or foil it blonde. However if you would like a more dramatic look then underneath part of your hair brown and the top layer all blonde. If your hair is already blonde now and you want to go brown remember to fill it with red.

ABSOLUTELY go to a salon! DO NOT try to do this on your own. It is money well spent to do it at the salon and depending on how resistant your hair is, it will probably take about an hour to get you there. Your colorist will first lift (bleach) your hair to this awful yellow and then tone the yellow out to a natural looking ash blonde. If you try to do this at home, you will not get beyond the orange stage because the chemicals they sell over the counter are considerably less potent than those available in a salon. So, I cannot stress enough...GO to the salon!

I can't emphasize how important it is to go to a salon when going lighter. Darkening hair is easier to do and harder to mess up, but when going lighter the colorist must bleach your hair to a certain level (VERY easy to overdo and FRY YOUR HAIR if you're trying to do it yourself) and then even it out using dye.

In order to get a cosmetology license a person has to learn all sorts of chemistry in order to know how these things will react. Its more than just cutting hair.

I went from past-shoulder length hair to a pixie cut because I damaged my hair so badly trying to lighten it myself. It turned out coarse and became straw like, breaking off when I tried to brush it. As soon as it grew out a little bit I had to chop it all off because it was so damaged and fried.

It will be tough at first, but if you shampoo only every other day it will get better and easier to airdry or style your hair without the heat tools. What i do is take a shower at night and spray "Garnier Fructis Curl shaping" spray gel. Scrunch your hair repeatedly and twist it with your fingers. Just make sure you apply enough around your entire head and curl it as much as possible. When you wake up it has a nice wavy look to it! I'm sure the celebrities dont go through this much trouble, but we all don't have personal hairdressers.

i do just one braid starting high up on my head and it gives me a great wave the next day, and my hair is still soft and fresh from the shower the night before. it actually saves me a lot of time in the morning!

I saw a add in a magazine with one of these hair dying thingies that was out 8 to 10 shampoos later. I kinda want to dye my hair a dark brown(right now I am a natural blonde) just to see how my hair would look as a brunette. Since a lot of blonde celebrities are dying their hair dark brown and it look great. However I have heard horror stories of people's hair turning purple and orange when they actually wanted brown. Have you ever tried this kind of product? Does i work well? Which product is the best? And after like the fourth shampoo does the hair look spotted? They work pretty, talkin from expierence. the first time i did it, it worked perfectly, but the 2nd time i had blonde highlights before, and i was dying my hair black, soo my highlights turned blue for a couple of months. Yeah but basically your colour just gets lighter, not spotted, and i used loreal colourfit, and umm.....herbal essences mousse(or something like that)

Yeah they work pretty well, they are just not meant to last and fade kinds quickly, especially red, but then red fades the fastest of any color. I like Clairol Natural Instincts, and also those colored shampoos and conditioners work well too if you just want to brighten your color.

No they hardly work at all. i was blond and dyed my hair dark (used "natural black" from loreal i think) and I LOVE IT...but thats just me. and i knew what i wanted. i wouldn't take my chances on a store bought hair die . when it says it washes out in 8 to 10 washes it really doesn't. every one has different hair types and different dies take to some hair types better then others. and no your not going to get the results you actually wanted. I've died my hair several times out of a box and was disappointed every time not only was it the wrong color but it fryed my hair so bad. leave it to the professionals that's what there trained for. if you don't like the results they can always change it back and leave your hair healthy and shiny looking . good luck

I only took her picture because everyone was telling me to (I assumed she is a celebrity). She has dark blonde hair, parted down the center (no bangs). It's a combination of a professional iron (extra hot ceramic tapered from 1" to 1/4" at the end.), all the right styling products (I could write a book on that. You need different things for different hair types.), and technique.

Stylist start with a strand of hair and wrap it from the base to the end. As you wrap it around the iron, the strand twists slightly. It gives the spiral curl you're speaking of.

It's really something you need to see. It's hard to write about how to do it.
