Can I be hair stylist?

I want to be a hair stylist but having some doubts. I know how to take care of hair but I don't know how to style hair. I've been in school for 3 months and I notice most people have good styling technique. Most people in my class already do hair in their kitchens and I really don't. So am I kidding myself or is it possible for me to achieve this dream I have of being a celebrity hair stylist.

those girls doing hair in their kitchens shouldn't be doing it first of all. I've been an educator for the state of NY for years and I've seen girls come from no nothings to head of class, because rather than jump the gun in a few months and think they could school me, they just sat listened, read and studied and asked questions. Those girls jumping the gun are the same girls that IF they graduate and pass boards they will be done with the business in a few years down the road anyhow because they didn't take the time to learn and continue to learn because they thought they already knew it all. Just pay attention in class and ask questions. Your teacher is there to answer those questions and we love to see students asking. In a few more months you should be learning curling techniques and braids, maybe even some updos. If you can focus on what your shown you can do it yourself. Don't worry if you can't get a braid perfect either, 1 in 10 girls can get the french braid in school, and 3 in 10 stylist can actually do a french braid. Updos aren't for everyone. Just try your hardest and be sure your heart is in it. if not you will fail. If you really want to be a stylist you need to get your head AND heart into what your doing. Best of luck to you!

You can develop your own technique with practice. Not to discourage you, not everyone can style but they can still take care or someones hair. But definately try things.

You have to first cancel whatever doubts you have. Sometimes we are our own worst enemy and worst critic! As someone else said, you can do anything you put your mind to. You have to tell yourself "I CAN do this!" and you have to believe that to be true. At the same time, it takes practice. Try practicing more on the doll head. Maybe ask your fellow classmates and instructors for some pointers.
