They try to be trend setters, so they reinvent their looks and style. Extensions are one of the quickest ways to do it.

Also, many of them need to change their look for movie roles. If they cut and color their hair for a movie role, then maybe they have another role right after that requires a longer length and perhaps a different color.

Sometimes their short/long, full or straight to curly looks are for movie roles. Or, to fix their hair after a role.

Finally, when you have your hair styled 2 - 3 times a day for a movie or TV show, it can be very damaging to your hair. Quite possibly, celebrities add extensions to make their natural hair look fuller and healthier, due to all the damage they endure from constant styling for photo shoots, TV appearances, movies, etc.

Honestly, it may not always be about fashion, sometimes it's about being practical, meeting the needs of an upcoming role or just making their hair look healthier than it really is. Some celebrities have naturally thin or unattractive hair and extensions can be their saving grace. They can style their hair much faster or have the appearance of beautiful hair without having to take so much time to fix it before an appearance.
