Hi, I'm an Asian guy trying to grow out my hair and get a style much like a girl's. I've got thick and coarse hair, and I'd like my hair to be straight and soft like the kind in this picture:

Any suggestions? I wake up and my hair usually stands up in certain spots and I need to comb it with water to bring it down.

ok, well this is a weird question but the pic. of Jessica Simpson...she straightens her hair. You can't make your haor grow, stars usually get extensions but that is bad for your hair. so probably you should just let it grow on its own and straighten it with a 1.5 inch straightener since your a boy you have shorter hair...

Most Asians (like me) have naturally straight thick hair. If your hair is also straight, most likely you wont need to buy a straightener. Besides, it's kind of a hassle to buy one and use it everyday.

Since you're growing it out now, it'll probably look strange for a while and continue to stick up when you wake up. If water works, then keep using that. You can also use gel, mousse, or hair spray if you need extra hold. When your hair grows to the right length you want, get your hair cut to the style you want (just bring a picture to the stylist).

For soft hair, you'll need to shampoo and then condition your hair. Some people also use leave-in conditioners to give your hair more moisture.
